Report Day 4: Monday, February 11, 2002

Here are some stories from today:

  • A PBS (Public Broadcasting System) cameraman and his team came up to us and asked us if they could film us. They waited with us until a person came up and then filmed our entire presentation. The young man who approached us requested a Bible and suggested we read John 3:16. So the entire team, along with the young man, read the verse aloud, while the cameraman continued filming. The filming also included our reading footnote 2.
  • An elderly Christian couple from Holland stopped by and instantly felt a bond of oneness with us. Their English was poor, but they took a New Testament to give to a pastor whose mother tongue is English and who was serving in Holland. The pastor has recently come to America.
  • One believer was delighted not only to receive the Recovery Version New Testament but also the two-year reading schedule. He fellowshipped openly and said that he had recently come back to reading the Word daily and acknowledged that he really gets off when he neglects getting into the Word.
  • We met a woman who received a free New Testament Recovery Version offer and then inquired, “Can I get this right now?” We asked her whether she read the Bible and she said, “Yes I do.” We read her a couple of footnotes and she was very appreciative. She thanked us and said, “You are doing a good work here.” She had a very good spirit and refreshed us.
  • A man was very interested and wanted a Bible. He also wanted to know about our faith. We shared with him from Romans, 1 and 2 Corinthians, and Ephesians. He was very open to us and didn’t want to leave us. As we were leaving this location, he followed us, fellowshipping all the way. We were going down the street and came to a taco stand where we all stopped and had a little meeting, singing hymns in Spanish.
  • A young woman came by and upon seeing us, had a look of surprise on her face. She stopped and said, “I would love to have this Bible. I had wondered which way to go to catch the bus. Then I decided that I would try and take this street. Now I know why.”
  • A volunteer met three people who wanted to get a Bible. One of them, who is from Hawaii, said, “I am going to a Bible study tonight and I have this Bible!”
  • A Spanish-speaking, gruff-looking man came to the table. He said that he was an LDS member and was ready to walk away. Then at that point he asked, “Could I still have a Bible?” Upon getting the Recovery Version New Testament, his countenance changed and he became happy and joyful.
  • A man from Pasadena, California came by and wanted to see a New Testament Recovery Version. We showed him the outline of John. He asked about John 1:1. We handed him a New Testament and he read the first page then said, “I've got to have this.” He filled out a card and got one.

Today we handed out 1,848 free Bible offers and 107 Recovery Version New Testaments.

Enjoying Christ as our living water,
