Report Day 3: Sunday, February 10, 2002

With the winter Olympics in full swing and the crew members well coordinated in the Lord, our third day was a definite further damage to God’s enemy. Through the prayers of those behind the scenes, we realize this endeavor is under the Lord’s headship. The experience the crew members gained from their “Word of Truth USA” tour has served as a solid foundation for advancing into Satan’s territory. The collective strategies that are constantly ongoing are working out further means of effective distribution to get God’s precious Word not only into people’s hands but also into their hearts.

This morning, we thoroughly enjoyed fellowship with some volunteers here in Salt Lake City. Then we, with fourteen of the volunteers, packed our lunches and headed out to selected sites around twelve thirty.

In anticipation of the many volunteers who will be arriving next week, we have been doing experimental spot checks to see where the best locations are. We have scouted out five key spots where pedestrian traffic is heavy and the environment appropriate. We would like to have at least ten areas to send teams of 4-5 to next week. We found an exceptionally good area only a block and a half from the motor home and near one of the main gates into the central Olympic village, where a team of five volunteers distributed 65 New Testament Recovery Versions in three hours.

Here are some stories from today:

  • We met a group of five young men with red jackets stating they were on the Russian ski jumping team. Using our poor Russian and with their good English, we presented three of them with an English Recovery Version New Testament. The others were notified that this same treasure has been translated into Russian and is easily accessible.
  • We offered a young lady a New Testament who replied that she didn’t need it as she had a Master’s in Theology. We read a footnote to her anyway, and she was very impressed. She said that she had not been reading the Bible lately and acknowledged this enjoyable encounter with the volunteers revived her appetite.
  • A believer came to the table and first wanted to make sure we were blood-washed, Spirit born believers. Upon getting this assurance, he opened up to fellowship about 2 Corinthians 4 where it says that we are a fragrance of Christ. We began to introduce him to the New Testament Recovery Version by turning to the first page of Acts. When we read to him the subject, “The propagation of the resurrected Christ in His Ascension,” he stopped us by saying “Stop, Stop. You’re blowing me out of my socks with the Holy Spirit.” We volunteers very much enjoy delightful comments like this coming from the Bible recipients.

Today, we were out for a little less time than usual (from 1:00–4:00 P.M.) with three teams in action. In all, we gave out 105 New Testament Recovery Versions and 2,126 brochures for the free offer.

Praising God for all He is doing,
The “Salt Lake City Tour” Crew
