Report Day 19: Tuesday, February 26, 2002

We thank the Lord for a marvelous day of activities at Fresno State University and a Wal-Mart store in Fresno.

Six Bibles for America crew members, along with local volunteers, including an officer of the Fellowship of Christian Students club, spent five hours at a free speech area on campus distributing BfA materials. In the first hour, we distributed over 100 Bibles! In total, we handed out 3,275 brochures and our entire stock of 328 Bibles.

In general, people were very polite, receptive, and interested in the Recovery Version New Testament.

  • The BfA table was set up near the table of a Christian club. All the students manning that table eventually got Bibles and loved reading Hebrews 12:2 (particularly footnote 2, which says that "the wonderful Jesus, who is enthroned in heaven and crowned with glory and honor is the greatest attraction in the universe"), John 3:16, and John 15:1.
  • A man who works on campus drove up in a mini-cart and received a free Bible. As he filled out the request card, he sang a song about the Lord.
  • Some Christians told us that they had prayed the Lord would visit Fresno State University, and they felt the Lord answered their prayer with the BfA visit.
  • One volunteer testified that he was giving away Bibles so fast that he did not have time to read the Bible's footnotes to people.

At two thirty, the crew on campus joined the crew members who had spent the day at the Wal-Mart store. We met many people in the five hours we were set up there and distributed 222 Bibles.

  • Fifty percent of the people who received Bibles at Wal-Mart want to be contacted again to receive guidance in reading the Recovery Version.
  • One woman received her Bible at our table, then went home and brought her daughter back with her so she could also receive a free Bible.
  • A volunteer from Texas was resting in the motor home when he saw another volunteer give a brochure to a man carrying shopping bags to his car. The man waved the card at our volunteer, as if refusing to stop by the table to receive a free Bible. When he got to his car, he stood staring at the table. Meanwhile, the volunteer inside the motor home prayed for the Lord to cause the man to change his mind and return to the table. The man did return to the table, with his shopping bags still in hand, set the card down, and picked up a New Testament Recovery Version.
  • Many people took a brochure at the store exit, walked away reading it, and then came back to the table for more information. It was as if they had changed their mind in mid-step.
  • At one point, we had four shopping carts lined up in front of our table as people filled out request cards.

Thankful to the Lord for all His working,
The "Salt Lake City Tour" Crew
