This
morning we set up our distribution table outside a Wal-Mart store
in Eugene, Oregon, and had a good time meeting some dear families.
We were situated next to a group of Girl Scouts selling cookies,
and it seemed as if we were getting more visitors at our table than
they were.
A
volunteer who had moved to Eugene from Texas a week ago spent
some time getting to know another family who stopped by the Bibles
for America table. At the end of their conversation, the visitors
exchanged phone numbers with our volunteer because they were interested
in reading the New Testament Recovery Version together.
- On
two or three occasions, people received BfA brochures, started
reading them in their cars as they drove away, decided they wanted
the Bible, then drove directly up to our motor home and filled
out the request cards in their cars. We walked over to deliver
the Bibles to them. It was as if the motor home was a drive-through
Bible-mobile.
- Some
passersby who picked up brochures at our table did not choose
to receive a free Bible then. But when they got to the parking
lot where the motor home was parked, they stopped by to get Bibles
after reading through the brochure.
In the
afternoon, we drove two hours to Roseburg and arrived around two
thirty. We gathered with some area volunteers at a Wal-Mart store
in Roseburg for an hour and a half of distribution.
- On
the way to Roseburg, a young lady stopped to get a cup of coffee
at the gas station where we stopped. While she was looking at
the motor home a volunteer approached her to offer her a Bible.
She was very excited to receive the Bible. The volunteer told
her where we had been on this tour, and she very much wanted us
to come to her church the next day to give out Bibles. The volunteer
told her that we were on the road traveling and could not stop
but gave her brochures to hand out to members of her congregation.
In
total, we distributed 173 Bibles today. In the evening, we enjoyed
a pot luck dinner with volunteers and spent the night in Roseburg.
