Report Day 13: Wednesday, February 20, 2002

This morning we gathered in a building across the street from Boise State University for some prayer and reading of God's Word. By 10:30, we were on the campus with twenty-nine volunteers. The Lord provided us with highly visible parking spaces next to the Student Union building on the campus of this university of over seventeen thousand students.

In five and a half hours, we distributed 4,080 brochures and 514 Bibles, a record number for this tour so far. Of the 514 people who received Bibles, 67 indicated they are interested in being contacted again and receiving guidance in using the Recovery Version New Testament. Today's activities were truly above what we could have asked or thought.

  • A psychology student, who is also a believer in Christ, told us that she had difficulty explaining the human soul. A volunteer showed her Hebrews 4:12, which says, "the word of God is living and operative and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit." When she read this verse and the corresponding footnotes, her jaw dropped. She said, "This is it! This is my thesis!"
  • One student stood at our table for about fifteen minutes, engrossed in the verses and footnotes of the New Testament Recovery Version. He said that he didn't want to get the free Bible, but later he changed his mind and came back after class to sign up.
  • A man had recently gotten rid of his Bible because it reminded him of a negative situation, so he was very appreciative of our free offer saying, "This is exactly what I need right now."
  • "I just want to thank you for taking the time to give out the Bible," said one young man who was baptized only last Sunday. How timely that he could receive the Bible!
  • Two volunteers who do not speak fluent English met a man from Mexico who was very thankful to receive the Word of God for free and a Catholic girl who also wanted the Recovery Version New Testament.
  • One volunteer testified, "I have never in my entire life had a day preaching the gospel like today." He spent the day walking students to class, sharing with them about the Lord Jesus and the Bible. One student he met said that he is an atheist. When the volunteer asked him why he is atheist, he discovered the student is a scientist and very thoughtful. The volunteer said, "If there's a God, it would behoove you to study this Bible." The student then said, "I think I'd better take one."
  • At the end of the day, two volunteers heading back to our designated meeting place saw two students walking across a field. The volunteer had two Bibles in his backpack, so they decided to approach the students to offer the Bibles to them. The students said that they had been looking for the BfA table because one of their friends had received a Bible earlier in the day and recommended that they also get Bibles.

Tomorrow is a travel day; please remember us in your prayers.

Praising God for His marvelous doings,
The "Salt Lake City Tour" Crew
