Here are some highlights:
A young mechanic worked on the motor home this morning. He wanted to go
to a Bible college but couldn't afford it, so we gave him the Recovery
Version New Testament with footnotes. He said he would study it and get
his friend who attends a Bible college to order one. Two others at the
dealership also got New Testaments.
When
two volunteers drove into a parking lot, the attendant saw BfA brochures
on the back seat and asked if they were giving away Bibles. They gave
her a brochure, and she asked if she could get a Bible right away. The
volunteers told her that the BfA motor home would arrive momentarily and
she could get one when it came. After she got her New Testament Recovery
Version she said, "I really want to meet with some women who will
study this with me. Please don't leave tomorrow. Please come back so we
can have a Bible study." She was promised a Bible study.
One
BfA crew member had a Jewish friend from first grade who retired here
in Albuquerque. He arranged to meet this friend and his wife at the tour
bus on campus today. This friend heard the gospel from the crew member
many times throughout the years but never received the Lord Jesus. When
he and his wife both got study Bibles today, they were introduced to another
BfA crew member, who is from a different state. When the man and the other
crew member saw each other, they couldn't believe it. They knew each other
and had actually worked together for fifteen years. They hadn't seen each
other for four years. It was a joyful reunion for everyone and showed
again how the Lord has been arranging many appointments during this tour.
A BfA crew member met a young couple who told him, "Right now we
are trying to be saved." He responded, "You don't have to try.
Just believe and be saved." They read John 3:16 and Romans 10:13
with the footnotes. After reading these verses the crew member suggested
that they pray together to receive the Lord Jesus. They both were willing
to follow him in prayer. Their whole countenances changed, they were so
happy. They left with the Lord Jesus inside them and His holy Word in
their hands.
We
met a cook who really wanted a Bible. He was so hungry for the Word. He
asked us to show him in John where it says that the branches are cut off
from the vine. We realized that he was anxious concerning his eternal
security, so we read to him John 15:2-6 then John 10:28-29: "And
I give to them eternal life, and they shall by no means perish forever,
and no one shall snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given
them to Me, is greater than all, and no one can snatch them out of My
Father's hand." These words assured him of his salvation, and he
wept, filled with gratitude to the Lord.
Two students sat at a table reading their newly acquired Recovery Versions.
A crew member asked them whether he could sit with them. They agreed and
together they read the footnote from Hebrews 12:2 about how the wonderful
Jesus, enthroned in heaven and crowned with glory in honor, is an immense
magnet attracting us with His charming beauty. They took turns reading
the word out loud and had an enjoyable time reading the Bible and the
footnotes this way.
A
volunteer offered a brochure to two reluctant people who eventually took
them. The volunteer showed them the features of the Recovery Version:
the outlines, footnotes, charts, and maps. They both then got Bibles joyfully.
One asked whether the Recovery Version is in Spanish. When he told her
it is, she said, "I've got to get this for my dad. He'll love this
Bible!"
A history teacher wanted to get a New Testament Recovery Version for
herself and for her many students. She said, "Now it's legal to teach
the Bible as a history book in my class. This Bible is just what my students
need."
A
volunteer met a student he knew four years ago. The student didn't recognize
him. Four years ago the volunteer was not following the Lord Jesus. He
prayed that the Lord would fill his speaking with Himself as he spoke
to his friend. He told him, "I was in dark things because I was mad
at God and had a lot of resentment, and I didn't understand many things
in my life. I was searching for satisfaction, and I was empty and dry.
But the Lord wants to be life and peace to us. Do you know who the Lord
Jesus is?" The volunteer realized his friend was touched by his testimony
but was afraid, so he said, "Just pray, Lord Jesus, come into my
spirit. Lord Jesus, cleanse me of my sins with your precious blood and
give me your eternal life." His friend repeated the prayer he just
heard. Now the Lord Jesus changed two young men! (Another volunteer had
prayed for this same young man and had tried to give him a Bible for years.
He was so happy when he saw him getting the free Recovery Version.)
A BfA crew member was distributing literature at the front entrance of
the University of New Mexico Hospital. He couldn't pass out the brochures
offering a free Bible fast enough. People instantly expressed their gratitude.
A hospital security guard told him that he couldn't pass out literature
at the hospital. The guard gladly accepted a brochure and then said, "If
you go around the corner I won't be able to see you." The crew member
did this and continued to pass out many cards, thanks to that guard.
A teacher from Cibola High School in Albuquerque and several of her students
each got a Recovery Version Bible.
One couple told a volunteer, "You have three seconds." They
gave him five minutes and then happily got their New Testaments.
