Tuesday, Novermber 27, 2001 - We gathered this morning around nine o'clock
for prayer, praying for God's people all over the earth with much rejoicing,
exulting, and giving of glory to the Lamb.
Around ten o'clock we arrived at Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville,
Florida. The college gave us the perfect location but told us we could
not go up to the students but could only make our offer for a free Bible
from our distribution tables. Because of this restriction, a group of
volunteers decided to stay in the motor home to pray for the situation.
They prayed for people to be empowered to come to the tables. Whenever
they looked out the window and saw someone, they asked the Lord to turn
that person's head in the direction of the table, and then the person
would turn, see the table, and go to the table. The Lord answered their
prayers the entire time they were praying.
Six student volunteers happily joined us to pass out literature and give
away New Testament Recovery Versions. Several students seriously considered
whether to get a Recovery Version New Testament, but once they looked
over the footnotes, they wanted one. A campus police officer, who is a
brother in the Lord, gave us rides around the area so we could get good
photographs for our report. He told us he realized it is not good for
Christians to be separated and that we shouldn't divide the Body of Christ.
He, too, received a New Testament gladly.
Here are some stories from today:
A
campus Bible-study leader who works at a Christian bookstore came to
the table. He was excited about his own study Bible, which he had with
him, and asked us whether he could compare his with the New Testament
Recovery Version. We said, "Choose any verse you like and we'll
compare them." We looked at verse after verse and chapter after
chapter. It took only a short time before he was in awe at the extensiveness
and quality of the footnotes in the Recovery Version. He was glad to
get his own copy and told us that he would tell his bookstore about
the Recovery Version New Testament so they could offer it to the public.
He also took ten brochures for his study group. He wished we would stay
until twelve thirty when his study group met so they also could get
this New Testament. Later, when we were leaving the campus, he ran up
to the motor home. He had been at his mother's office at the college
and had shown her his new Bible. She insisted that he give it to her,
so he was desperate to get another one for himself.
Another
campus Bible-study leader took a careful look at the footnotes, then
took a New Testament for himself and some brochures offering the free
Recovery Version for his group, and thanked us repeatedly for our service
to both unbelievers and believers.
After
one student got his Bible, he agreed to let us interview him on video.
We asked him for his thoughts about September 11. When he began to talk
about the Lord Jesus, his eyes filled with tears, causing the interviewer
to also shed tears. The predominant feeling this young man had was that
the divisions among Christians must go. We were impressed with his heart
for God's people.
One
girl we met said that she believed Jesus was God because of being raised
in a strong Catholic home, but she had not yet received the Lord into
her. We read with her John 3:16 and footnote 2, which says that to believe
into Him is to receive Him. She said she had tried very hard to be a
good person. We told her that to receive the Lord into her was to receive
the only "good one" in the universe-Jesus Christ. He would
be the good person living out of her. She promised she would get on
her knees tonight to ask Jesus Christ to come into her. She was grateful
for the sharing, looking over her new Bible as she left.
A young
man came to the table and said, "I've tried to study the Bible
but I've given up. Every time I tried, I didn't get anywhere. I need
something to reinforce the words of the Bible." We were thanking
the Lord we could give him a Bible he could understand, one with clear,
accurate, and helpful footnotes.
We praise the Lord for these hungry ones who want to know God through
the study of His Word. Today we gave away 62 Bibles at Santa Fe Community
College and 2 more at a gas station somewhere in Georgia.
To
God be the glory, great things He has done!
