Report Day 37: Thursday, 11/22/2001

Thursday, November 22, 2001 - This morning, after a good time of prayer, we left Raleigh, North Carolina and headed for Jacksonville, Florida.

On the way, we stopped for lunch at a Cracker Barrel restaurant in Santee, South Carolina. We spoke with some of the restaurant workers and told them about the offer of a free Recovery Version New Testament. One of the crew members then approached the manager to tell him who we were (BfA) and that some of the workers had requested a Bible. We wanted to check with him to see whether it was all right for us to give out the Bibles. He consented to this, and we brought in the Bibles, offering him the first one. He took it gladly. The waitresses must have spread the word among themselves because they first told us that they wanted 6 Bibles, then they asked for 10 more, then 6 more, and finally 3 more. We gave away a total of 26 New Testaments just at that restaurant. There were no negative responses today.

By evening, we were safely in Jacksonville, Florida.

Rejoicing in the Lord,
The "Word of Truth USA" Crew

From the BfA Office:

For over a month now the “Word of Truth USA” crew has been faithfully sending us a report every day. They’ve shared their impressions of how people everywhere—from all walks of life, all ages, all races and all ethnicities—are hungry for the Word of God. Many of these stories have moved us to tears.

Over the Thanksgiving weekend the crew will be spending some time in Jacksonville, Florida for a much-needed rest. After the holiday weekend, the reports will resume on Tuesday with a report of Monday’s activities.

We thought you would like to read another side of the story of the tour besides that of people’s response to the Recovery Version. There’s also the side of what has been happening in the spirits and hearts of the crew members and volunteers themselves. Here is the gist of some of their impressions taken from their correspondence to us:

  • I felt like I was under the Lord’s overshadowing and covering from the time I started off on the tour to the time I got home.
  • Without the faithful ones praying at every time in spirit there would be no way for the Lord to move and right now, no way for this tour to be realized.
  • I just got back last night from spending one week with the New York to Newton, Massachusetts portion of the tour. Needless to say, it was one of the most wonderful, memorable, life-changing weeks of my life. On my way home, I was filled with gratitude and thanksgiving to the Lord for all I learned on the trip. On one hand, I felt unworthy, and on the other hand, I know everything I experienced is not for myself but for the Body. I want to mention a few things I learned:
    • I learned to ask the Lord concerning every detail and to watch the Lord come through faithfully.
    • I learned to move men by prayer. I witnessed chains of, “No thanks” change to chains of, “Oh, thank you” simply by quietly using my God-given authority to pray for people.
    • I learned to pray and serve in harmony with the other volunteers and see the Lord pour out His blessings.
    • I saw so many “coincidences” where we ran into people who were looking for someone to help them become a Christian, or into backsliders who had been thinking about returning to the Lord, or into someone who happened to need a Bible, and so on.

We at Bibles for America want to thank you who have been following and praying for the “Word of Truth USA” tour. Apart from the prayer of the Body which brings in the Lord’s supply and blessing, we can do nothing. As the Lord leads, we ask you to continue to pray for the “Word of Truth USA” tour until its completion on December 14.

In Christ,
The Bibles for America Staff
