Report Day 32: Saturday, 11/17/2001

Saturday, November 17, 2001
- We began our day by gathering with all the volunteers in Cambridge, Massachusetts for prayer. We then had fellowship about our plan to go to the Boston Commons in downtown Boston and to Tufts University in nearby Medford.

At the Boston Commons, the city center, we passed out the Bibles for America brochures offering a free New Testament Recovery Version to hundreds of Bostonians.

  • One woman wept as she related to us her reaction to the tragedy of September 11. Although she never went to church, she told us that after the attack, she found herself walking into a chapel in her neighborhood to reflect on things. When we offered her a free Bible, she readily accepted it. After we introduced her to the footnotes, she said that she earnestly looked forward to reading it.
  • We met a man who initially rejected our offer. However, after we showed him the New Testament Recovery Version, especially the outlines in it, he requested a copy.
  • After we gave one woman a brochure, she asked to see the Bible we were offering. Upon reading a footnote, she immediately wanted a copy. She told us that she had just purchased a new Bible the day before, which she would bring with her to public meetings but that she would use the Recovery Version for her daily devotional time with the Lord.

At Tufts University we met many young students who came up to the motor home to fill out the information card and to receive their free New Testament.

  • A psychology professor obtained his copy and told us that he was happy to receive it and had been hoping to resume his study of the Bible.
  • A young man told us that just last night he had been thinking he should start reading the Bible again. He thanked us profusely for being at Tufts today and for giving him a Bible. A volunteer shared with him how to pray using the words of the Bible as Ephesians 6:18 teaches us. He had never heard that the Bible could be read this way and was overjoyed to learn this.

At the end of the day, we gathered again in Cambridge to fellowship together about the days’ events. Since we ourselves have received unsearchable spiritual light and nourishment from the Recovery Version New Testament with its outlines and footnotes, we feel privileged to be able to participate in BfA’s mission to offer this gem to every household in America. Time after time we have found that simply reading a footnote with people causes them to want their own copy of the Recovery Version. We don’t need to say that much. We have witnessed how this treasure captivates people with its riches, answers their questions, and feeds their inner hunger. We pray the truth the Lord has given to His people contained in the Recovery Version will be spread throughout this country. We also pray that we would be faithful to our dear Lord to go out to spread His Word so that people may be set free by the truth, sanctified in the truth, and come to the full knowledge of the truth.

Under God’s rich mercy,
The “Word of Truth USA” Crew
