Report Day 9: Thursday, 10/25/2001

Thursday, October 25 - Before we began the day's activities, the Word of Truth USA crew met together at nine o'clock this morning to pray and sing. We particularly enjoyed this hymn and chorus:

Just a channel, full of blessing,
To the thirsty hearts around;
To tell out Thy full salvation,
All Thy loving, message sound.

Channels only, blessed Master,
But with all Thy wondrous grace,
Flowing through us, Thou canst use us
Every hour in every place.

We prayed strongly that we want to be channels of blessing to every person we meet. We prayed very much along the line of Luke 4:18 and 19 which say, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to announce the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to send away in release those who are oppressed, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, the year of jubilee."

Later, seven crew members and two area volunteers went to the University of Colorado at Boulder. Two other crew members went to Denver University. We arrived at Boulder around noon and began to distribute BfA literature. By 3:30 P.M., we distributed 2,400 pieces of literature offering free RcVs and gave 27 RcVs directly to students. At Denver University, we passed out 507 pieces. Since October 17, when we began the "Word of Truth USA" tour, we have distributed BfA literature to 9,237 recipients. In the past two days, we have found that most of the Colorado students are very receptive to our literature and to talking with us.

Here are highlights from some we met today:

After one woman received a Recovery Version at Denver University, she returned after five minutes saying, "I need another one for my daughter. I was reading the footnotes in Matthew chapter one and already saw something."
Another person came back and said, "I called my father in Seattle, told him about this, and he wants one."
At the University of Colorado, one young man said, "I have some questions. What translation is this?" We told him that the offer is for the Recovery Version and then read part of the brochure to him explaining the basis of this version and footnotes. Then he asked, "Are pastors using this version?" We answered, "Yes, pastors are using this to develop their sermons. Even radio preachers are using this." He said, "I am a missionary to Uganda. I will order one."

One student who received a Recovery Version from us came back later and said, "There's a lot of good reading in this. You almost don't need to read the verses. There is so much in the footnotes." We encouraged him and told him that he still needed to read the verses.

Please continue to pray for us. Tomorrow morning we leave for Lawrence, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri.

In His grace,
The "Word of Truth USA" Crew
