Report Day 14: Tuesday, 10/30/2001

Tuesday, October 30, 2001 - After two nights and a day in Lincoln, Nebraska with a tremendous response to our BfA literature at the University of Nebraska and at a shopping mall, we left there at eight thirty in the morning and headed for Des Moines, Iowa.

Just outside Des Moines at a rest stop where we stopped for lunch, we met and offered a free Recovery Version to a trucker from Fort Collins, Colorado. He said, "Do you have something to go with this to help me understand the Bible?" We replied, "Yes, this Bible has over 9,000 footnotes." Then he said, "In just the New Testament?" We watched him walk back to his truck with a big smile on his face.

In the early afternoon we drove into Des Moines where we parked next to the Drake University campus and began to distribute our literature. We invited the students to come to the motor home to receive their free Recovery Version New Testament on the spot. We found the students very receptive to this and quite a few received a New Testament then. We passed out a grand total of 473 items of BfA literature, including 29 Recovery Versions.

Here are two highlights of our time at Drake University:

  • We gave New Testaments to the leaders of two different Christian clubs on campus.
  • On our way back to the motor home, we met three freshmen girls as they crossed the street and offered them brochures for free New Testaments. They all thanked us, but one said, "Oh, I left my Bible at home, and I really need one now." We told her that she could get one at our motor home. So she and the other two girls walked with us three blocks to the motor home, fellowshipping along the way about their favorite verses, their experience of Christ, and even singing. They gladly entered the motor home where others were also receiving free Bibles.

After a rewarding experience with the students at Drake, we left the campus area and had dinner nearby. We had a refreshing evening of fellowship and singing together with a few fellow members in the Body of Christ until around ten o'clock.

We anticipate the Lord's blessing on our travel and work in Iowa City tomorrow.

The daily demands of our travel and labor led us to pray over some verses in Colossians 4 which say, "Persevere in prayer, watching in it with thanksgiving, praying at the same time for us also, that God would open to us a door for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ" (vv. 2-3). As we watch and pray with thanksgiving, we appreciate all the prayers for us and for the open door for God's Word.

Trusting in Him,
The "Word of Truth USA" Crew
