We pulled into Lincoln, Nebraska around five thirty in the evening where
we were warmly welcomed by an area volunteer. He received us into his
home, fed us, and generously provided overnight lodging for all twelve
of us. Since we left Irvine, California on October 17, we have distributed about
13,000 brochures and other pieces of BfA literature offering a free New
Testament Recovery Version: roughly 11,800 on college campuses and 1,200
in various cities and towns with the most being passed out in downtown
San Francisco. During our trip across the U. S., we have especially appreciated a verse
and its footnote in the Recovery Version. Second Corinthians 4:7 says,
"But we have this treasure in earthen vessels that the excellency
of the power may be of God and not out of us." Note 1 says, "In
the apostles speaking
concerning their ministry for God's new covenant, five very significant
and expressive metaphors were used to illustrate how they, as the ministers
of the new covenant, and their ministry were constituted, how they behaved
and lived, and how their ministry was carried out: (1) Captives in a triumphal
procession for the celebration of Christ's victory; (2) Incense-bearers
to scatter the fragrance of Christ; (3) Letters written with Christ as
the content; (4) Mirrors beholding and reflecting the glory of Christ
in order to be transformed into His glorious image; (5) Earthen vessels
to contain
the Christ of glory as the excellent treasure." We pray that the Lord would really constitute us to be such ministers
of the new covenant so we can minister the Christ in our earthen vessels
to
all the hungry people we meet. Kept in Him, |
