Friday
October 19, 2001 - At 8:45 A.M. we gathered together
for breakfast at the Lakeside Café in downtown San Francisco. Three
local BfA volunteers also joined us. After breakfast we rendezvoused at
the motor home for our first visit of the day, Diablo Valley College in
Pleasant Hill.
Once
at the motor home we found we couldn't get in because of a problem with
the door lock and had to call a locksmith. After his much-appreciated
work was completed, he happily received a RcV. At 12:30 P.M.
we arrived at the campus and were joined there by a few volunteers. Thirteen
of us fanned out across the campus for two hours and had a wonderful experience
talking to the students, distributing about eight hundred of the new BfA
campus brochures, and presenting Christ to them. Most of the students
were very open to our work and free offer. A driver of a minibus even
placed a brochure on each seat of his vehicle. One of the volunteers offered
a student working at an information booth a brochure, and the student
replied, "Give me a stack. I can pass them out to the students I
see." Even some faculty members at the college were very receptive
to our brochures. A young person who appeared to be uninterested turned
out to be a Greek and Hebrew student. He gladly filled out a business
reply card with an e-mail address "godslave." Because of the
warm response, we had the definite feeling that the campus was well prepared
by prayer even before we arrived.
We
left at 2:30 P.M. and ate lunch at a nearby restaurant.
We took the opportunity to give the assistant manager a BfA brochure.
He eagerly received it and also asked for thirty one more, one for each
of his employees. After leaving the restaurant, we went to the home of
a volunteer in Pleasanton for a visit.
For
the evening we split into two groups. One group returned to San Francisco
to assist in the preparation of more BfA gift packs for tomorrow's activities.
The other joined a dinner and BfA training in Santa Clara for new volunteers.
Those of us who visited the training gave a brief report of our activities
of the last two days. We all were mutually encouraged. After leaving Santa
Clara we arrived back in San Francisco at 9:25 P.M.
