Two volunteers had an appointment at
seven-thirty this morning to join a broadcast on a Christian radio
station, KLFC. The show’s hosts asked about our involvement
with Bibles for America, so we told them about our cross-country
motor home trips and encouraged anyone who would like to volunteer
to call Bibles for America’s toll free number or to visit
the Web site. The radio station announced that Bibles for America
would be at an area Wal-Mart at ten o’clock to distribute
free Recovery Version New Testaments. During the show, twelve people
called in to request Bibles, many of them businessmen who listen
to the program regularly.
After
the program, we mentioned that we wanted to go to Fort Leonard Wood
to distribute Bibles. They suggested that we contact a retired military
chaplain, which was exactly what the retired military officer had
told us in Joplin. We were given the name and contact information
for this man.
We arrived at the Wal-Mart at around ten o’clock. After much
prayer together, we set up a table to distribute New Testament Recovery
Versions near the store exit. Later we set up a table at the motor
home. Some received brochures at the store exit, walked to their
cars, drove by the motor home, and stopped to get a Bible. Many
said that they had heard the radio broadcast earlier in the day
announcing our gift offer. In total, we distributed 330 Bibles.
-
A
woman who had heard the radio broadcast came to the table and
told us that she and her husband would love to drive their recreational
vehicle and do what we were doing. She said that distributing
Bibles was something worthwhile.
- Another woman was so engrossed in reading the Recovery Version
that her husband, who was nearby reading entertainment brochures,
could not get his wife to put down the Bible and look at his brochures.
- We gave Bibles to people from at least 30 different states
who were on vacation.
- A man came to the table and said that his wife had heard on
the radio that Bibles for America was coming to Wal-Mart today.
She insisted that he take her to the store today to get her Recovery
Version. He stayed and talked to us for a long time; she is eager
for the Old Testament Recovery Version to come out.
Tonight we ate dinner at McFarlain’s Restaurant in the lobby
of the IMAX Entertainment Complex. The manager of the complex approached
our table and asked us to meet his wife who had heard us on the
radio and wanted to receive five Bibles for their family. We told
her that we had planned to leave tomorrow unless the Lord opened
up a distribution location for us, so she asked the management if
we could set up inside the mall tomorrow.
