Saturday, May 3, 2003—Sacramento, California
Following a brief training and prayer, the West Coast motor home crew and fifteen volunteers from Sacramento visited a Wal-Mart store in Rancho Cordova (east of Sacramento) today to distribute free Recovery Version New Testaments. From ten o’clock in the morning until three o’clock in the afternoon, the volunteers distributed 191 Bibles! Although the weather was stormy before and after our visit, the Lord cleared the sky while we distributed Bibles.

People’s expressions changed from skepticism to joy when they realized the Recovery Version was absolutely free and full of rich content. Many people sincerely said, “Thank you” and “God bless you” for the Bibles they had received.

  • Many young parents came to our display table with their children. Eyes lit up when a volunteer told one couple that the Recovery Version is a wonderful Bible for parents to read to children. This couple was so excited to receive the Bible for their family. When the volunteer went home and read a portion of the Recovery Version to his own children that night, his daughter’s response was, “Daddy, I like your book so much!!”
  • Some people were afraid this Bible would not be as good as the one they have at home, so a volunteer suggested that they read the preface, which explains the translation of the Recovery Version. After showing the Recovery Version’s outlines, maps, and other features, and after reading a few sample footnotes together, they were excited and wanted to go home and read the Bible.
